2021 Virtual Events during the Corona Virus Pandemic

​​RR Harriers male club captain James Ward has arranged the following events for club members to participate in during the ongoing Corona Virus pandemic. 

RRH 5km Winter Warmer (18th to 25th January)

The challenge was to complete a local 5km run as fast as possible with the results age graded.

RRH Hilly 10km Challenge Mk 2 (25th to 31st January)

The challenge was to run a maximum of 10km starting and finishing at your own front door getting in as much ascent as possible. Unlike the previous challenge in November 2020 running repetitions up the same hill was not allowed!

RRH Virtual Marathon Challenge (1st to 7th February)

The challenge was to run 26.2 miles during the week either as a one off run or multiple runs adding up to the marathon distance. The total time was then factored depending upon how many runs you took to complete the distance and then age graded to produce the final results.

RRH Tribute to the Alsager 5 mile road race (8th to 14th February)

This challenge was a tribute to the famous Alsager 5 mile road race traditionally held in February. The idea was to run 5 miles as quickly as possible with the results then age graded.

RRH Takeaway Special Points Challenge (15th to 21st February)

The challenge for this points race was to find as many traditional take-aways as possible in your local area starting and finishing at your own door within a maximum distance of 10km. Points were scored for traditional chippy’s, Chinese takeaways and Kebab shops.

RRH Virtual 3km Interval Challenge (22nd to 28th February)

The challenge was to run 3km as an interval session e.g. 5 x 600m, 10 x 300m etc within a maximum duration of 45 minutes with the results being age graded.

RRH Spring Selfie (1st to 7th March)

The challenge was to take some selfie photos with a Spring theme. As it turned out the weather was less than Spring like that week!

RRH Virtual Random Relay (8th to 14th March)

This challenge was a relay run for teams of four runners over distances of 3, 4, 5 and 6 miles. The times were age graded and a Joker card could be played to reduce one runners time by 20%.

RRH Virtual Half Marathon (15th to 21st March)

This challenge wasn't age graded but the results count towards the RRH Championships.

RRH Audax Challenges (December 2020 to April 2021)

These challenges were initially planned to be held over the Christmas and New Year period but Lockdown 3 put a stop to attempts so the completion date was extended until April. There were three events in all, all very different. Karolina provided two, one a circuit around the Duffield area and the other an urban challenge around pubs in Derby. Steve Leach provided the third, a circuit based on Ticknall in South Derbyshire. Here are the results.

RRH Virtual 5km Easter Egg Burner (26th April to 2nd May)

An age graded 5km blast with some great times recorded.

RRH Tribute to Roger Bannister (3rd to 9th May)

On May 6th, 1954, Roger Bannister became the first person to run a sub 4minute mile. This was a straight forward 1 mile time trial to see if you could emulate Rogers achievement! (Not age graded.)

RRH Judge your Pace Challenge (10th to 16th May)

You were required to run between 6 and 10miles, and each mile had to be the same pace. A formula was used to calculate the winner (deviation/distance) based on peoples mile splits and speed profile.

RRH Strava Art Competition (17th to 23rd May)

We did this challenge last year so you weren’t allowed to do the same pic as last year.

RRH One Hour Challenge (24th to 30th May)

This was a repeat of last years challenge. The target was to beat last year’s distance.

RRH Trigs and Bridges Points Challenge (31st May to 6th June)

The challenge was to see how many trig points (3 points) and bridges (1 point) you could run past (or under) within a 10m run.

RRH Acceleration Run (7th to 13th June)

The challenge was to run between 5 and 8 miles and each mile had to be faster than the previous one.

RRH 4 mile Handicap Race (14th to 20th June)

The handicaps were provided by Bill Southgate as usual with a £20 Derby Runner voucher to the winner.
